Highlights from AO CMF NA Course the future of maxillofacial reconstruction

Augmented Reality, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Aided Solutions

Held, May 1-3, 2026 in Tampa, Florida, the computer-aided craniomaxillofacial surgery program was a resounding success featuring an intensive hands-on experience using human anatomic specimens to explore both current digital surgical tools and the next-generation technologies entering operating rooms.

Last week's course was absolutely brilliant!  I still can't believe we did "jaw in a day" with fully custom plates, implants and even prosthesis! We all learned so much and can now use this knowledge to help our patients every day. Every single slide of every single lecture, every single discussion and every single hands on exercise was so valuable! It was life changing!

In attendance were residents, fellows, practicing surgeons and others looking to deepen their skills in AR navigation, pre-prosthetics, and intraoperative imaging for oral and maxillofacial surgery, ENT, and plastic surgery. The 2.5-day immersive program rotated participants through interactive modules and cadaveric labs designed to simulate real-world surgical challenges and solutions.

Highlights included case discussions of Augmented Reality (AR), using AI in Clinical Practice, Patient-Specific Implant Design, Orbitozygomatic Reconstruction, Intraoperative Navigation & Imaging, Orthognathic Surgery Planning, Pre-Prosthetic Implants, an Emerging Technologies Showcase and a Jaw-in-a-Day Lab.
